The espresso machine hissed for the last time.
The lights dimmed, and I stepped outside into a world that suddenly felt both terrifying and full of promise.
For over 15 years, my hospitality business had been my second home. The rhythm of service, the familiar hum of the coffee grinder, the daily dance with customers — it was more than a business or a job. It was part of my identity.
But that chapter had closed. And with the turn of a key, so had a version of me I had known for decades.
Setting the Context
Reflecting on what was………
I’d poured years of sweat, skill, and stubbornness into that business. Through early mornings, long weekends, and more “just one more coffee” refills than I could count, I had built something real.
Then the world changed. The pandemic, shifts in consumer habits, and — ultimately — a building redevelopment forced my hand. My lease was ending, my business was no longer viable, and I was staring at a blank page in my life story.
At 64, I wasn’t exactly in the demographic that most people associate with “startups” or “digital pivots.” But the thought of fading into retirement didn’t sit right. I knew I had more to give — and more to learn.
The Turning Point
When someday became right now……..
Somewhere between boxing up the last glassware and handing over the keys, I made a decision: this wasn’t the end — it was the start of my second half reinvention.
I’d been fascinated by technology and digital business for years, but it had always been in the “someday” category. That “someday” had just become “right now.”
I discovered that the world of AI, online entrepreneurship, and affiliate marketing wasn’t just for 20-something tech whizzes. It was accessible. And it could be shaped around my values, my vision, and the lifestyle I wanted next.
That’s when My New Digital Adventures (MNDA) and VELOCITi were born.
The Learning Curve

I won’t sugarcoat it — starting from scratch in the digital space was daunting.
I had to learn:
– How to build and run a website.
– How to write content that connects.
– How to use AI tools to automate and scale.
– How to market in a digital-first world.
The Modern Wealthy program gave me a framework. My own persistence filled in the rest. I treated every challenge — from figuring out SEO to setting up my first AI agent — as another latte to master. At first, it’s awkward and messy. Then, it clicks.

Lessons Learned

Here are the biggest things I’ve learned so far:
1. Reinvention is as much mindset as skillset. If you think you can’t, you won’t.
2. Start before you feel “ready.” Waiting for perfect is just a delay tactic.
3. Technology is a tool — not a barrier. If you can learn to use a coffee machine, you can learn AI.
4. Your network matters. Surround yourself with people who push you forward.
5. Purpose fuels persistence. If your “why” is strong enough, the “how” will follow.
